Gurit Automotive has extensive knowledge of the design and engineering needs of the automotive industry. Gurit works with a number of leading OEMs as a tier 1 supplier, providing not only composite body panels, but also design services to ensure the parts are optimised to make the most of the qualities of composite materials.

Firstly, extensive experience of composites in a range of industries allows engineers at Gurit to advise customers in the best use of composites in their particular field, be it performance cars, commercial vehicles or other dynamic applications. Concepts can be generated and Gurit engineers can assess both the performance of composite structures and the suitability for the program based on the expected volumes in production.

Gurit uses industry standard 3D CAD and CAE to provide design and engineering support. This has allowed efficient development of geometry at concept stages of the parts that meet the requirements set out by the OEM. The choice of materials and laminate specification is often chosen to meet structural, geometric and aesthetic needs. Tools such as FEA and Laminate Theory guide the engineers to the optimum material choices. Gurit will develop the tooling concept and perform, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) studies to ensure that the tool design meets the exacting specifications set using the many years of experience in this field producing quality parts for high end vehicles (working with the likes of Aston Martin, Porsche and Rolls Royce).

Gurit utilise the capability of CAD/CAE tools to define and develop efficient patterns for the laminates and to ensure efficient nesting and cutting of materials and thereby minimising costs to the customer.
