Langdon Park (DLR) Station Canopy, London, UK, 2007

Langdon Park DLR Station, London

As part of the regeneration of the Langdon Park area of East London a landmark station design was proposed by Consarc.  This included a 30m long curved bridge canopy.

Gurit carried out design and analysis of a composite canopy, including producing the complex curved 3D geometry from the architect’s sketches and engineering a composite alternative to the proposed steel solution.

The resulting 30m canopy was manufactured in two pieces to ease transportation. The canopy is a mixture of carbon and glass reinforcements, with a bonded bolted joint at the centre of the canopy.  A service tray was moulded into the canopy to site lighting and public address systems.

The station was opened in December 2007 by the Mayor of London, and won the Best Regeneration Project award at the British Construction Industry awards in 2008.
