Morris Yachts - Leadership 44 Training Vessel
Almost two years after the project kick-off, Shearwater, hull 1 of the Morris-built Leadership 44, the new training vessel for the US Coast Guard Academy, was launched in May 2011. The boats will teach cadets how to sail at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
Morris Yachts, based in Maine, was chosen out of twelve bidders by the US Coast Guard Academy to build the Pedrick-designed training vessels. To help achieve the consistency and high quality standards required, as well as meet the demanding delivery schedule of the boats, Morris Yachts selected the B3 SmartPac.
The sailing yachts have a gelcoat finish, with a hand laid mat layer,
followed by layers of resin infused E-glass and Corecell™ A-foam. With
the components built to date, Morris Yachts have seen a significant
reduction in material preparation and mould loading time, due to the use
of the SmartPac.
