Banque Populaire Breaks Record

SP-High Modulus would like to congratulate the crew of the Banque Populaire V racing trimaran for their record breaking achievement in the Jules Verne trophy. The crew completed the circumnavigation of the globe in 45 days, 13 hours, 42mins and 53 seconds. The previous record stood at 48 days, 7 hours, 44 minutes and 52 seconds set by the Groupama 3 crew in 2010.

SP-High Modulus were part of the engineering team during the build of Banque Populaire and have also advised during her refits. The skipper Loick Peyron recently spoke to The Daily Sail website about the boat “A lot of work has gone into this over the past three years, particularly in terms of sailing and I arrived just after this development had taken place, ready for this world tour. What is impressive is that on this kind of voyage multihulls often start showing cracks, but on this there is no sign of structural weakness.”

The Jules Verne trophy is a prize for the fastest circumnavigation of the world by any type of yacht with no restrictions on the size of the crew, provided the vessel has registered with the organisation and paid an entry fee.

The boat crossed the finish line in between Lizard Point in Cornwall and Ushant in Northern France on Friday 6th January.
