SP–High Modulus to exhibit latest product portfolio and capabilities at METS 2010

27th October 2010, Isle of Wight – SP-High Modulus, the marine business of Gurit, will be exhibiting at the forthcoming marine trade exhibition METS, on stand 11.439. The event, the world’s biggest marine equipment show, will take place at the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition Centre from Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th November 2010.

As the reliable technology partner in the global race boat, super yacht and production boat markets, SP-High Modulus offers boat builders a complete composite solution that combines SP-High Modulus’ industry-leading composite technologies and in-house engineering expertise. An integral element of some of the most exciting and innovative boats on the water today, SP-High Modulus offers a complete partnership to designers, project managers and boatyards to maximise the potential of their boat designs.

SP-High Modulus will introduce its comprehensive range of marine composite products which now includes the B3 SmartPac solution. This is a versatile construction solution that helps builders manufacture composite components more efficiently and cost-effectively than ever before. The B3 SmartPac solution comprises of optimised structural design with pre-cut reinforcements and core materials, designed to reduce complexity and cost in production boatbuilding.

Corecell™ M-Foam is SP-High Modulus’ structural marine foam core which offers a complete cost-effective package comprising high shear strength, low weight and high elongation, low resin uptake for infusion processes and high temperature stability for prepreg processes. Now the performance leader for all marine applications, Corecell™ M-Foam offers a unique combination of properties such as chemical resistance, built-in toughness, fine cell size and unique ‘knife-cuts’ (which ensure resin absorption is very low, saving both weight and cost). M-Foam has been type approved by Bureau Veritas and Registro Italinano Navale (RINA). These compliment its previous accreditations by three awarding organisations including ABS Quality Evaluations, Inc. (ABS QE), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Germanischer Lloyd (GL).

Finally SP-High Modulus will be promoting the RINA approved, high-performance marine adhesive Spabond 540, designed for bonding large polyester and epoxy GRP structures. It’s extended working times, exceptional toughness and high strength make this adhesive ideal for bonding stringers/bulkheads, frames and hull-to-deck joints on medium to large production boats. This tough, gap filling adhesive offers low exotherm and shrinkage in thick bondlines and is available in a range of working/cure times.

About B³ SmartPac
A versatile construction solution that helps builders manufacture composite components more efficiently and cost-effectively than ever before. Many builders in this competitive marketplace are looking to make improvements, to find smarter ways of building composite components, whilst maintaining quality and meeting performance requirements. However, each builder has different needs – a series production builder who wants to manage overheads more closely; a custom-boat builder who wants to shorten the build schedule to meet a demanding owner-driven deadline.  Whatever the requirement, SP-High Modulus can package and supply the B³ SmartPac to meet specific needs.

Benefits of the B³ SmartPac include:

  • Reduced overall costs through
    – reduced time in-mould
    – reduced labour costs
    – reduced waste levels
    – reduced material costs
  • Repeatable process with known costs and known quality
  • Efficient procurement
    – Order one SmartPac instead of multiple materials
    – One-stop-shop for materials, engineering, quality control, and process support
  • Improved overall quality

Corecell™ M-Foam – Structural foam core
Corecell™ M-Foam offers a unique combination of properties through enhancing the qualities in all Corecell™ products such as chemical resistance, built-in toughness, fine cell size and unique ‘knife-cuts’ (which ensure resin absorption is very low, saving both weight and cost). Furthermore M-Foam is tough and easy to machine, offers superior uniformity through lower density variation and is compatible with polyester, vinylester and epoxy resin systems.

Spabond Adhesives
SP-High Modulus, the marine business of Gurit, is a technical leader in the formulation of advanced epoxy resins. Spabond adhesives have been designed to offer Production, Superyacht and Race boat builders a comprehensive range of adhesives for structural bonding of polyester and epoxy GRP boats.
Offering outstanding performance in numerous composite and non-composite bonding applications, Spabond adhesives are perfect partners for SP-High Modulus laminating products.

Spabond 540 a high-performance marine adhesive is designed for bonding large polyester and epoxy GRP structures. Its extended working times, exceptional toughness and high strength make this adhesive ideal for bonding stringers/bulkheads, frames and hull-to-deck joints on medium to large production boats. This tough, gap filling adhesive offers low exotherm and shrinkage in thick bondlines and is available in a range of working/cure times. It has recently gained RINA approval.
