Spillages

Spillages

Personnel must be thoroughly trained in safe methods for dealing with spills and for the disposal of wastes.

Epoxy products will normally be classified as hazardous waste and should be handled accordingly. Training should be given in spill cleanup methods and the correct PPE to be worn. This should be carried out before an accident occurs.

For small spills absorbent material should be applied to the spill, then shovel the mass into a suitable container. Any residues left behind should be removed with steam or hot soapy water. The use of solvents for this purpose can pose health hazards and should be avoided.

For larger spills (over 50 litres) isolate the spill area to prevent personnel coming into contact. Shut off leaks and contain the spill with a boom. Collect using absorbent materials and place in suitable containers for final disposal.
Any residues left behind should be removed with steam or hot soapy water.
