SP-High Modulus launches SparPreg™, a versatile unidirectional prepreg for the efficient manufacture of high quality marine spars at METS 2012
9th November 2012, Isle of Wight, UK – SP-High Modulus, the marine business of Gurit, will launch SparPreg™, a versatile unidirectional prepreg, at METS next week. SparPreg™ has been, developed to enable the economical manufacture of unidirectional spar caps for more demanding marine spar designs.

The material can produce thick laminates of exceptional  quality  with  low  void  content,  without  the  need  for  an intermediary  debulking  process  or  additional  dry  fabric reinforcement to aid air removal. The net result enables marine spar manufacturers to eliminate production steps and redundant materials, and increase production capacity.

SparPreg™ has been specially formulated to achieve outstanding in-cure and mechanical performance. It can be cured at temperatures as low as 85°C, but can also be used at 120°C for the rapid manufacture of components. SparPreg™ can be used with a range of fibre types to suit specific applications, including SPRINT® (SP-High Modulus’s patented material and processing technology), and other prepregs.  SparPreg’s™ versatility means that it can also be used as a conventional prepreg if required.

SP-High Modulus’s marine team will be showcasing SparPreg™ at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam from 13th – 15th November 2012. Stand number EL 10, located in the newly created Construction Materials Pavilion in the Elicium.

The team will also present a white paper at the new Material Innovation Stage, focusing on the work SP-High Modulus has been doing with Hahlbrock GmbH in developing composite bulwarks for two different Megayacht projects. The presentation will take place on Wednesday 14th November at 10.45am on the Material Innovation Stage located in the Elicium.
