Design Engineer - Composite Structural Engineering

Site Overview

Gurit Composite Engineering, is a part of the Marine and Industrial Business Unit of the Gurit Group, and has offices in the UK, France and New Zealand employing 25 engineers globally. We provide composite engineering services to designers and manufacturers and work alongside long-standing customers in various markets such as Marine, Transportation, Architecture and Wind Energy.

Role Description

The role will involve carrying out engineering on a wide range of projects using analytical and design skills, in collaboration with a project team. You will plan and manage engineering projects as well as working with customers and end users to ensure deliverables meet customer requirements.

Purpose of the Department Function

You will work with our engineering team carrying out engineering of projects for composite structures to the highest quality standard as part of a commercial consultancy team of professional engineers.

The successful candidate will be based in our offices in Auckland, New Zealand and must have the legal right to work in New Zealand prior to commencement of employment

Key Responsibilities

 Planning, project management and client liaison on engineering projects under the supervision of a more experienced engineer.
 Conceptual structural design and detailed design and analysis of composite engineering projects under the supervision of a more experienced engineer.
 Assist in the development of innovative and efficient engineering solutions and working methods
 Develop own technical capability and broaden engineering knowledge across different markets
 Develop project, commercial and personnel management skills

Skills & Experience

• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering, Material Science or related.
• Knowledge and experience of working with structural composite materials and building methods.
• Knowledge of Rhino and/or SolidWorks (or other 3-D CAD Packages) advantageous
• Knowledge of Altair Hyperworks and experience of Finite Element Analysis advantageous
• Knowledge of marine and industrial composite structures would be an advantage
• Knowledge of Gurit product range is advantageous.
• Ability to work as a constructive member of a team and have a strong sense of responsibility.
• Proven ability to deliver results within timelines and a high level of attention to detail.
• Fluent in English, both speaking and writing skills - essential.
