Composite materials for lighter mass transportation
With a focus on velocity and energy efficiency in mass transportation, weight reduction is a critical factor and therefore requires a smart choice of materials in both the primary structure and interior components. At the China Composites Expo, Gurit specialists will be available to discuss how using Gurit’s high-performance lightweight, structural core materials can address this issue, as well as its range of qualified performance prepreg systems and adhesives, that are ideally suited to manufacture weight-optimised laminate structures and meet the most stringent safety requirements.
Visitors to the Gurit stand will be able to see a wheel cover from a new ‘Swing’ tram manufactured by PESA in in Poland using Gurit® G-PET™ FR , fire retardant structural core material, as well as Gurit’s ST 70FR low temperature curing fire retardant epoxy SPRINT™. Gurit’s engineers will also be hosting a technical seminar on ‘The Use of Advanced Composites for Mass Transit Rail Applications’ to discuss how Gurit’s solutions are providing optimised performance for lightweight fire resistant rail components in high speed and metropolitan trains.
Lighter blades for wind energy success
A cross section of a wind turbine blade will also be on the stand, manufactured at Gurit Tooling’s facility in Taicang using a wide range of Gurit’s materials including structural foam, PVC foam, thermoplastic and balsa wood core materials, as well as high performance epoxy adhesive and infusion systems and long-life SparPreg™ with Airstream™.
Over the last 15 years, Gurit has helped make wind energy a technical and commercial success story by helping to decrease manufacturing costs of wind turbine blades and enhancing the efficiency of wind power installations. The growing blade dimensions create challenges for wind turbine blade manufacturers with the longest blades typically now measuring over 80 metres and weighing in excess of 20 tons each. Materials solutions are needed to keep the weight of the wind turbine blades as light as possible, yet maximising their strength, stiffness and durability. Gurit is unique in covering both infusion and prepreg blade production technologies, with all the relevant materials needed for building a composite blade, as well as tooling systems.
Gurit Team available on Stand A828 to discuss customer needs
In addition to its successes in the mass transportation and wind energy sectors, Gurit is highlighting its full product range and engineering services for applications across a growing range of industries. The Gurit team will be on hand on Stand A828 in Pavilion A to discuss how customers can make efficiency gains using Gurit’s cost effective solutions and value-added services. Visitors are encouraged to make appointments in advance of the show to discuss their projects and requirements.
